‘Housefull 5’ becomes Akshay Kumar’s 6th largest grosser, crosses ‘Kesari’, but is unlikely to hit ‘2.0’. Hindi film news

Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 continued his successful run, crossed India and 158 crores within 11 days and became his sixth largest grossing film. Crossing the Kesari and OMG 2, the comedy franchise benefits from Akshay’s popularity, although the new release can affect its screen count. Despite the challenges, the film strengthens the position of Housefull as a major comedy series.

Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 has added another wing to the actor’s brilliant career, as the film had crossed a mark of Rs 158 crore in India in 11 days, officially became his sixth largest grossing film till date. The latest installment in the comedy franchise has now crossed the lifetime collection of Kesari (Rs 155.7 crore) and overtook the OMG 2 (Rs 151.16 crore), confirming Akshay’s continuous box office appeal, especially when it comes to mass entertainers. The film was opened on a strong note, collected Rs 24 crore on its first day, followed by Rs 31 crore on Saturday and Rs 32.5 crore on Sunday, which made its early weekends healthy for Rs 87.5 crore. While the collection posted over the weekend, the film managed to organize quite well during the week, the week 1 was closed for Rs 127.25 crore. In the second weekend, expected jump, 6 crores on Friday, Rs 9.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 11.5 crore on Sunday, reached Rs 158.25 crore by the second Monday based on their total estimates. While the number remains impressive, for a comedy franchise, especially in 2025, it seems to be fast that Housefull 5 will cross the fifth highest Gruser of Akshay, 2.0, who gave Rs 190.48 crore. The primary reason lies in the current box office dynamics and is in the arrival of a new release like Aamir Khan’s Sitar Zamin Par and Dhanush- Nagunjun’s Kubera on 20 June, which will start eating in screen count and collection of Housefull 5. While franchise tag and permanent popularity of Akshay have attracted a large number of viewers, it is traditionally challenging in the Indian market for a comedy film to maintain speed beyond the second week. With 2.0, this landscape was different-it was a large-scale science-fi spectacle titled by Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, supported by grand scenes and a festive release window, which helped it reach a mark of Rs 200 crore. Housefull 5, while a large-tick entertainer, works with relatively low shelf life in a different style and at the box office.Nevertheless, the film’s performance strengthens the position of the houseful franchise as Bollywood’s most successful comedy series. For Akshay, it marks a mixed commercial success after 2024, and speaks the possibilities of its upcoming slate, including booto bungalow, Welcome to the Jungle and Jolly LLB 3.
