FBI director Kash Patel, an Indian -origin official, led the agency, on Tuesday announced the extradition of Muhammad Shahzab Khan, a Pakistani citizen, who lived in the United States on charges of terrorism in the United States. Khan is accused of providing material assistance to ISIS and attempting to plot a collective shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn, New York.Patel wrote on X, “Major news … this afternoon, Pakistani citizen, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, who lives in Canada, was extradited in the United States on charges of providing material assistance to ISIS and trying to try to try the acts of terrorism.”According to the FBI, Khan allegedly planned to travel from Canada to New York and make a collective shooting on 7 October 2024 – the 2023 Hamas attack anniversary on Israel – in support of ISIS. He was arrested by Canadian officials on September 4, 2024 before carrying out the attack.Patel said, “Thankfully, the great work of the FBI teams and our colleagues exposed and closed them.” “He has now reached America and will face American justice.”It is reminiscent of “the continuous threat to terrorism facing every corner of the world”, also highlighted “getting upset in threats against our Jewish communities”.He credited several FBI field offices including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles for his role in the operation.Although the announcement was made from Indian origin Patel, many people in India have been doubting the United States for a long time to provide safe shelter to Pakistan -backed terrorists. However, under the Trump administration, Washington’s trend is changing.Just after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the White House, President Donald Trump approved the extradition of Tavavur Rana, the main accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in India. Rana was handed over to Rana in April to face trial for his role in the attacks.Nevertheless, another central figure in the case, David Headley, is imprisoned in the United States.President Trump also strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, claiming the lives of at least 26 people. Expressing solidarity, he said, “PM Modi and incredible people of India have full support and deep sympathy.”
