Ilhan Umar condemns the brutal murder of George Floid

On the fifth anniversary of George Floid’s death, US Congresswoman Ilhan Umar said that his assassination should never be forgotten nor should there be an immediate need to improve the criminal justice system of America. In a series of positions on social media, Omar, who represents the 5th Congress district of Minnesota, said, “It has been five years of George Floid’s murder. He should be alive today. Any grandeur or writing history will change that fact.” He said, “On this day – and every day – we should commit ourselves to discover justice. It has to destroy systemic racism and change our vision for fundamentally criminal justice.,George Floid was a 46 -year -old black man and was killed in Minianpolis in 2020 when a white police officer Derek Chowvin kneel her neck for more than nine minutes. Murder, captured a viewer’s phone, staged a worldwide protests against racial injustice and police cruelty. Chowvin was later convicted of murder and sentenced to 22 years in jail.Omar’s message came as people from all over the country five years after the death of George Floid. In Houston, where Floid grew up, his family gathered near his grave. In Miniapolis, where he was killed, locals organized a church service, a candlelight vigil and a gospel concert at George Floid Square, which is now named a road corner named after him.In another post, Omar reflected on the widespread impact of Floid’s death. “His assassination ignited the immediate conversation about the status of our nation, the status of policing and the status of our justice system – as well as justice,” he wrote. “And unfortunately, as we have seen every time we have seen that there is an movement for the liberation of black people, for equality, for justice, we see a backslide – a backslide – where things not only stop making progress, but where people are publicly designed to express their racism.,That backlash, he suggested, can be seen in the recent efforts of police reforms and diversity programs presented in view of Floid’s murder. In Miniapolis, the reforms presented after a federal investigation in police misconduct are in danger, as the administration of US President Donald Trump has questioned his legitimacy, which the data used “flaw” and the agreements call the local police to “handcuffing”. However, MinoriPolis Mayor Jacob Frey insisted that the city would fully comply with the new consent decree. At the national level, Trump has withdrawn the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies in the federal agencies and the army. In Washington DC, Black Lives Matter Plaza has been removed. In Houston, a famous wall of Floid was recently demolished as part of the tear of a building.Omar also condemned those inviting Chowvin to forgive. “We are seeing unjust calls to forgive Chowvin,” he wrote. “Despite any federal forgiveness, he still faces the state murder sentence and will be in jail. He will always be known as a killer to the people of this country and the world.”Their posts come as surveys, showing a decline in public belief that Floid’s death led to permanent changes. Recently, according to the Pew Research Center Pol, 72% of Americans say that there has been little or no improvement in the lives of black people. Since its peak in 2020, there has been a decline of 15% in support for Black Live Matter Movement.Floid’s family and supporters continue to respect his memory and pushed for permanent improvement. Omar said, “We still have a lot of work before seeing true justice and liberation.” “But today I am thinking of George Floid’s family because they reduce their losses. He can rest in power forever.”
