‘Tariffs can trigger humanitarian crisis’: China warns WTO on US trade measures

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Chinese Commerce on Saturday, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wango warned that American tariff measures could “severe damage” over developing countries and increase humanitarian crisis.
“These US ‘mutual tariffs’ will cause serious damage to developing countries, especially developed countries, especially developed countries,” Wang told the Director General of World Trade Organization-General Nekoji Okonzo-Ewela during a call. He accused the United States of causing “heavy uncertainty and volatility” globally and claimed that tariff tricks also led the “chaos” within the US.
The two largest economies in the world have a warning between a dramatic growth in the trade conflict. On Friday, Beijing announced that it would implement 125 percent tariffs on the US goods starting on Saturday, which closely reflects its 145 percent of Washington’s levy on Chinese imports.
Despite the tight-for-tat escalation, China indicated that it could not further vengeance, arguing that American imports have become economically unattainable. It also confirmed the plan to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization on the latest American measures.
In a strong words statement, Chinese authorities dismissed the Trump administration’s approach as “a joke” and “a number game”, dismissed the aggressive tariff strategy as a brinkmship.
Vikas triggers another wave of market disturbance, in which global stock markets swing rapidly, increasing gold prices, and the US Treasury faced a fresh pressure.
