New Delhi: Judicial custody For Ranya Rao, Tarun Raju, and Sahil Jain In Gold smuggling case It has been extended by 21 April.
It came after investigation in the case where Revenue Wisdom Directorate (DRI) revealed that he had earlier smuggled about 14.56 kg of gold in India.
As a result of illegal operation, the loss of customs duty was Rs 4.45 crore. Ranya Rao was allegedly assisted by Sahil Sakaria Jain, who played an important role in selling smuggled gold within the country. The revelations have intensified the investigation, with the authorities now looking deeply in the smuggling networks.
After his arrest on 26 March for his role in the gold smuggling case, Jain was kept in judicial custody till 7 April.
Earlier, the 64th CCH Sessions Court in Bangalore refused Ranya Rao’s bail application on March 27, later after a similar rejection by a special court for economic crimes on March 14. Earlier, the magistrate court also turned down its bail plea, given the seriousness of the allegations.
In earlier court proceedings, the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) presented evidence that Ranya Rao had confessed to acquiring gold through illegal channels using Havildar transactions.
He was arrested on March 3 at the Kemp Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru, where officials discovered 14.8 kg of gold in his possession.
DRI has initiated proceedings under Section 108 to investigate potential financial misconduct and legal infections.
