Gokhale Institute and Sis now close the horns on cash control

Pune: Tensions between Pune-based Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) and India Society (SIS) have again encouraged both business allegations on the control of a major bank account. The quarrel comes against the backdrop of the FIR filed on the complaint of Gip in April, alleging that former Sis Secretary Milind Deshmukh was accused of misusing Rs 1.4 crore. At a press conference on Thursday, Gype’s under -finished Deputy Registrar Vishal Gikwad accused Sis of doing wrong, including freezing its account. Sis President Damodar Sahu fought the allegations.“We came to know 3-4 days ago that Sahu wrote to the bank to freeze the account from where the salaries of the employees were destroyed. But we met the bank officials and turned it on, “Gaikwad said.On the other hand, Sahu insisted that it had a joint account with two signators, Sis and Gipe. However, Jip removed the signature of SIS without any prior notification, Sahu claimed. “We wrote to the bank to freeze the account to know what happened. It has always been a joint account since installation. Always have been two signators and one cannot be removed randomly,” Sahu said.On the FIR related to the earlier funds against Deshmukh, Gaikwad said that he had written to the police that he asked Sahu’s name to be added to the matter. Sahu said that he has no idea about the letter of the gipe, nor has the police contacted him.In view of his allegations against Sis for misuse of Gip funds, Gikwad said that the institute has written to the Charity Commissioner, requesting the SIS leadership suspension and the appointment of a administrator. Sahu said that the gipe has no right to make such a demand because Sis is its original body.A few months ago, SIS accused the interim VC Shankar Das of allegedly bypassing procedures in the recruitment of faculty and staff in the gipe, which increased Sis as Chancellor to remove Sanjeev Sanyal and appoint an interim Chancellor.Sanyal accused SIS of lack of transparency in financial transactions. He announced that a panel led by JNU Vice Chancellor Santishree Pandit would inquire against Das, after which Sahu called it misunderstanding and Sanyal was restored. Pandit’s committee later gave a clean chit to Das.
