Ashwani became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets on IPL debut, ending with 4 figures for 4 in three overs. His magic played an important role in taking out KKR for 116 in 16.2 overs.
He had immediate effect, rejecting KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane with his first IPL delivery. Their control and variations proved to be very much for the opposition, as they later rejected Manish Pandey, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh.
Ashwani credited Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya for the dismissal of Russell, “Hardik Bhai asked me to bowl and bowl on the body and it hosted a wicket.”
