European Union’s top court rules ‘Golden Passport’ schemes are illegal

Brussels: “Golden Passport” schemes for deep pockets violate the European Union law, the Block’s Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled by Brussels after a legal challenge against Malta.
The European Union’s Court of Justice said, “The acquisition of the union’s citizenship cannot result in a commercial transaction.”
Brussels took Malta to the apex court in this program in 2022, which effectively malters-and therefore allows non-European people to buy European Union Union-Nagarism through defined payment or investment.
Tuesday’s decision is binding and Malta should be proclaimed or at risk of heavy fine. “A member state cannot provide its nationality – and really European citizenship – in exchange for predetermined payment or investment, as it essentially presents the acquisition of nationality to the acquisition of a commercial transaction,” the court said.
Although the court insisted that every member state has the right to decide on nationality, it was a freedom that should be “used in compliance with the law of the European Union”. The Maltese scheme “violates the principle of honest cooperation and threatens the mutual trust between the states related to the grant of their nationality”, the court said.
Amir Russian and Chinese used to get the plan European Union Citizenship From Malta. Cyprus and Bulgaria had similar schemes but these countries later left them.
Malta excluded Russian and Belarusian applications for “Golden Passport” after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, when Europe exploded to individuals associated with Kremlin.
