Eam Jaishankar wishes for Eritrea on his Independence Day

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister’s Jaishankar on Saturday wished the government of Irritriya on the occasion of his Independence Day.Jaishankar shared a picture of the 10th international day of yoga being celebrated in Irritriya in June 2024.In a post on X, he said, “FM Usman Saleh, government and Irritria’s greetings on their Independence Day.”https://x.com/drsjaishankar/status/1926151151515161308250The Indian Embassy in Eritrea also wished citizens on the occasion.In a post on X, the embassy said, “Happy Independence Day to the people of Eritrea.”https://x.com/Indiaeritrea/status/1926179594819789208https://x.com/indiaeritrea/status/1926184145564123307Earlier on May 15, 2024, India and Irritriya organized the second round of Foreign Office consultation in Delhi and discussed ways to make their cooperation more comprehensive.The discussion between India and Irritria officials focused on promoting developmental cooperation and capacity building in the spirit of South-South cooperation, in a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea).Both sides also talked about the current cooperation between India and Irritria in various fields including agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals and mining.In a statement, Mea said, “A wide range of bilateral, regional and multilateral issues was discussed in a cordial and creative manner. He focused on further promoting developmental cooperation and capacity building in the spirit of South-South cooperation.”India formally recognized Irritriya soon after its independence from Ethiopia on 24 May 1993. Over the years, India has provided capacity building assistance to Irritria in many areas in many areas including legislative draft, technical scholarship (agriculture, education, health, handicrafts, etc.). And also food aid. In 2009, the Government of India, according to the MEA, extended a line of credits of US $ 20 million to the Government of Eritrea.An MoU was signed in Delhi in April 2018 when an Foreign Office consultation between India and Irritria. Subsequently, the first session of FOC was held on 29 October 2018 at ASMARA in ASMARA at the level of Joint Secretary (WANA) and Director General, Asia-Pacific Department.
