DMDK Rajya Sabha seat to reconsider the alliance after AIADMK | Bharat News

New Delhi: DMDK expressed dissatisfaction over AIADMK’s decision to postpone the allocation of Rajya Sabha seat for the party by 2026.DMDK general secretary Premlatha Vijayakanth said that his party would announce its coalition plans before the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu during a meeting in Kudundal on January 9, 2026.Without accusing the AIADMK to break the promises made before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Premlatha said that parties like PMK and TMC were already given Rajya Sabha seats by AIADMK and insisted that it is now DMDK’s turn. He revealed that AIADMK had given a written commitment to allot DMDK to five Lok Sabha seats and a Rajya Sabha seat during the 2024 elections. However, when asked for a specific date, AIADMK leader Edappi’s Palaniswami reportedly stated that such letters usually do not mention the year.AIADMK Deputy General Secretary KP Munusamy confirmed on 1 June that DMDK is part of AIADMK alliance and will be given the Rajya Sabha seat in 2026. Palaniswami also played a rift, saying that the alliance was intact and an attempt to break it would fail. DMDK treasurer LK Sudhesh assured Palaniswami a day after a meeting with Palaniswami to discuss elections in the Rajya Sabha.Premlatha said that politics was closely associated with elections and his party will also work in its interests for the 2026 assembly elections. He announced that DMDK will soon appoint election-match-matching for all 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and start preparations.He also thanked Chief Minister MK Stalin and DMK for passing a resolution at his General Council meeting in Madurai on 1 June, in which DMDK founder and late leader ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth was honored.
