‘Even tomato seller knows better than Pakistan Cricket Board’: Basit Ali Lambasts PCB after recent crises

New Delhi: Former cricketer Basit Ali In view of the disappointing performance of the national team, the resignation of Pakistan’s selection committee has been called, recently the One Day International (ODI) series concludes New Zealand 3–0 at a clean sweep loss.
This call for change is amid the period of low performance by the Pakistani cricket team, especially since exiting the Champions Trophy on group stage, an incident they had won earlier.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the decisions of the selection committee, Basit Ali suggested that the committee, including Alim Dar, Aqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali and Hasan Cheema, lacks specialization in the formation of the team.

He highlighted the failure of the committee in including spinners as an important inspection in the Champions Trophy team.
“The selection committee should resign. They do not know how to make teams. From the Champions Trophy, it has been a flop show so far. Even the tomato vendor was asking that you have not included spinners in the Champions Trophy. Aqeb should be left. If you should stay for four months, you will go out with Bangladesh.”
In an attempt to focus and focus on future competitions including 2026 T20 World Cup and 2027 ODI World Cup, Pakistan began on a tour of New Zealand, including five Twenty20 International (T20I) and three Odis.
For the T20I series against New Zealand, Pakistan opted for a small, less experienced squad, except for prominent players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
Despite the infusion of new talents, Pakistan was defeated 4–1 by a relatively young New Zealand team led by Michael Bracewell.
The later ODI series for the purpose of preparing the 2027 World Cup, also ended in despair for Pakistan, even in lineups with Azam and Rizwan’s return.
Additionally, Basit proposed that Pakistan Cricket Board ,PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi should consider organizing the T10 cricket tournament.
He said, “The PCB president should host a T10 tournament. Babur, Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Aga, Tayyab Tahir, and Abdullah Shafiq need to learn power hitting,” he said.
