The film also stars Gippy’s 13-year-old son, Shinda Grewal, who plays his on-screen son. In a special interview with ETIMES, Gippy opened about how he got Shinda To do such an impressive action sequence in the film.
“This was the easiest and most pleasant part for Shinda,” Gippy said. “He has been trained in horse riding since childhood, does Parkaur, and even trained in Gutka – a traditional Sikh martial arts – for the film. Since he studies in Canada, we arranged a trainer there, and he beautifully trained.”
“When he came here, he learned various flips, but 2-3 of them could not be used in the film. He was upset with the action director to the end because he was told that those tricks would be included. They spent them day to practice. Our poor director had to convince that the Flips did not fit the story. Shinda really tried.”
In this interview, Gippy also revealed that it was Aamir Khan who suggested to release the film in Hindi. He said, “He saw the trailer before finalizing Edit. He really liked it and praised it. While we were having breakfast, he suggested that I release it in Hindi too. At that time, I had no such plan, but I already had an appointment with Dharma Productions, and whatever happened, what happened,” Gippy shared. “
Grewal also clarified that the film Akali Nihang is not a biopic of Sikh leader Akali Phula Singh Nihang. He said, “Our story is a task of imagination inspired by the 1840s events, which is after the period after Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It shows the situation in Punjab during that time, which we heard and said on the stories that we heard and said,” he explained.
The film includes a contingent of actors including Shinda Grewal, Nimrat Khaira, Niketan Dhair, Apinderdeep Singh, Gurpreet Ghugi and Mita Vashisht.
