Cabinet approves India’s 6th semiconductor unit to enter Jews

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the establishment of India’s sixth semiconductor manufacturing unit under the India Semiconductor Mission. The new unit will be located in Jewish, Uttar Pradesh, and is a joint venture between the HCL group and Foxconn with an investment of about ₹ 3,706 crore. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this will be the first chip unit in Uttar Pradesh.The plant will manufacture display driver chips for numerous of mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs and other devices, which have displays.It is expected to build around 2,000 jobs.The plant is designed for 20,000 wafers per month. The design production capacity is 36 million units per month.

Why is it important

Development is part of a comprehensive strategy to promote India’s semiconductor ecosystem, including design, construction, assembly, testing, marking, packaging, packaging and supply chain for equipment, chemicals and gases. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav highlighted the importance of this project, which is an important step towards building the Pan-India semicondia ecosystem, which takes advantage of the country’s talent pool.The other five semiconductors are under construction in Gujarat and Assam.The government said, “Already five semiconductor units are in advanced stages of construction. With this sixth unit, India proceeds to their journey to develop strategically important semiconductor industry.”
