Victor PerezA 17 -year -old withreal autistic teenager cerebral palsy The family confirmed on Saturday after being removed from life support in Pokatelo, Idaho, who was shot nine times by the police.
According to the news agency Associated Press, the teenager was in a coma since the April 5 incident and the brain was declared dead on Friday.
Perez’s aunt, Ana Wazezer said that Kishore performed several surgery after shooting, including removing nine bullets and a dissection of a leg, but doctors eventually found no brain activity.
After the shooting, the police reported the 911 call, saying that a “drunk man” was chasing people with a knife. The man became the winner, who was not drunk, but was staggering due to his disability.
According to his family, he found a kitchen knife during a family meeting and relatives were trying to take it from them.
According to NBC News, the authorities reached home and set fire to about 12 seconds of their patrol vehicles.
A video recorded by a neighbor shows Victor lying in the yard before standing and stumbling towards the officers holding the knife. A chain-link fence separated him from the police when he began shooting.
“Everyone was trying to tell the police, no, no,” Vazakwez said. “Those four officers did not care. They did not ask what was happening, what was the situation”, he said.
“How is he going to jump the fence when he can barely walk?” He asked further.
Victor’s death has expressed displeasure in the Pokatelo community, already running with protests and a vigilance was held outside the hospital on Saturday morning, where he was treated.
Pocatello’s police chief Roger Schei said the authorities issued orders to the winner to quit the knife and described the situation as one, where “the authorities had to take a partition-second decision.”
However, rapid growth and use of fatal forces without clear de-eskalation efforts has expanded extensive criticism.
Pocatelo’s Mayor Brian Blade issued a statement expressing condolences, saying, “We recognize this incident in our community’s pain and sorrow.” He also emphasized that “criminal, external and internal investigation” is running and that the city is “treating the case with seriousness and perfection”.
Eastern Idaho Important event Task Force is conducting external reviews, and Banock County Prosecutor Ian Johnson confirmed that once the investigation is completed, the report would be reviewed by an agency outside the county to ensure fairness.
Four officers involved in this remain on administrative leave. Their names have not been released.
Victor’s family and advocates are now calling for justice and involving persons with disabilities are widely re -tested of the police response strategy.
