Delhi Transport Department A fresh warning is issued for vehicle owners in the capital: If your vehicle does not have fuel-based color-coded stickers, you can soon face fines. This regulation, which applies to both new and old vehicles, aims to help authorities to identify fuel types at a glance and is part of the city’s big effort to curb the level of growing pollution.
According to a recent public notice, all vehicles in the National Capital Region (NCT) should now carry these chromium-based hologram stickers. The initiative is based on a directive of the Supreme Court from August 12, 2018, and it is reflected in Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
What are color-coded fuel stickers?
These hologram displays important information like vehicle registration number, engine and chassis numbers, issuing authority and even laser-ETT PIN. Officers on duty can quickly determine whether a vehicle runs on petrol, diesel, CNG, or electricity, just looking at the sticker on the windscreen.
The rule applies to all vehicles sold after April 1, 2019, as well as old vehicles registered before 31 March 2019. Owners of older vehicles are advised to contact their dealers to fit stickers.
How to book your color-coded stickers online?
To make things easier, the government has also provided an online method for booking these stickers, either with or without new High-protection registration plates (HSRP). You can go to BookmyhsRP to schedule a sticker installation or use the Delhi Transport Department portal.
The online process is quite straightforward. You have to enter your registration details including chassis and engine number found on your RC card. If you already have HSRP plates, you can choose the “color sticker” option. If you are also changing your plates, then there is a different option for it. Once you choose your favorite fitment location and time slot, verify your phone number with OTP, pay, and you are. A confirmation SMS and receipt will be sent to you.
Failure to follow this rule can lead to punishment under the Motor Vehicles Act. Therefore, if your car’s windshield is still missing color-coded stickers, it can be a good time to do the work before choosing the enforcement.
