Highlighting the Center’s investment in the infrastructure of Tamil Nadu, Modi said that 77 railway stations including Rameswaram are undergoing modernization. He said that since 2014, 4,000 km of roads have been constructed in the state with central assistance, causing employment in many areas.
The PM also listed the welfare initiative supported by the Center, stating that 12 lakh paved houses have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, more than 1 crore houses have gained access to drinking water, and more than one crore treatment has been provided under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. “These initiatives resulted in a savings of about Rs 8,000 crore for the families of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
On the recurring issue of Tamil fishermen detained by Sri Lanka, Modi said that the Center had achieved the release of 3,700 fishermen in the last decade, including more than 600 in the last one year, some of which were facing death sentence.
