New Delhi: Indian Railways announced on Monday that all new rakes built for the suburban network of Mumbai would be equipped with automatic gate-closing mechanisms to prevent passengers from falling from moving trains.The Railway Board said in a statement that under the construction of Mumbai suburban, all rakes will have automatic door closure facilities.The decision follows a recent incident on Monday between Diva and Mumbra stations in Thane district, where at least five passengers died and several others were injured after falling from a crowded local train. The move aims to improve security and prevent accidents caused by open doors on local trains of Mumbai. The board also confirmed that all rakes will be re -designed in service currently on Mumbai suburban networks.The board said, “All rakes will be re -designed in service” and door closure facility will be provided in these rakes of Mumbai suburban.
Thane local train tragedy
At least five passengers were killed and several others were injured after falling from a crowded local train between Diva and Mumbra stations on Monday morning.The incident occurred around 9:30 am when two trains traveling in opposite directions crossed each other. Passengers parked on the footboard of both trains collided during the crossing, losing and falling.Officials said eight passengers fell, in which five were declared dead on arrival in nearby hospitals and others were injured. An preliminary investigation found that 13 passengers fell. More details are awaited.
