Allahabad High Court rejected Rahul Gandhi’s petition challenging citizenship

New Delhi: Allahabad High Court On Monday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi dismissed a petition challenging the Indian citizenship status.
A petition filed by Vignesh Sheshir, a Karnataka worker, alleged that Rahul Gandhi organized a dual citizenship of India and the United Kingdom, which would make him unfit to contest elections under Article 84 (A) of the Constitution.
Earlier, the court gave 10 days to the Ministry of Home Affairs after the Center requested additional time to verify the information from the UK government.
In 2019, MHA issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi about his citizenship, which was about his citizenship following the complaint of the then Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy.
Swamy had alleged that a company named Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in 2003, and Gandhi was listed as one of the company’s directors and secretaries.
Swamy also claimed that the Congress leader had declared his nationality as the British in the official documents of the UK -based company.
“It has been brought further in the complaint that the company’s annual returns were filed on October 10, 2005 and 31 October 2006, your date of birth was given as 19 June 1970, and you declared your nationality as the British. Further, in the dissolution application on February 17, 2009, it was also mentioned as the above-Reford Company.”
