‘Omkara’ is definitely one of the Bollywood crime drama films and has earned a creed among the film Buffers. Ishwar ‘Langda’ Tyagi’s character is definitely a standout and was played by versatile actor Saif Ali Khan. Here, let’s take a look at an interesting general knowledge about the film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
In an interview recently, writer Robin Bhatt revealed that Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was initially keen to play Langda Tyagi in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2006 film ‘Omkara’. However, after the discussion, the filmmakers felt that Aamir was not perfectly fit for the part, eventually leading him to cast Saif Ali Khan.
“Aamir was ready to play the role of the villain”
Omkara, a conversion by William Shakespeare’s Othello, starred Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. According to Robin, after Ajay was finalized as Titular Role and Kareena as Dolly, he faced a dilemma about the important character of Langda Tygi.
This challenge came up
The team then approached Saif, but a new challenge was created, the lack of flow in the rustic western Uttar Pradesh dialect required for the character. Robin shared that Saif was not away from hard work. To convert to Langda Tyagi, Saif not only cut his hair, but also took a deep language lesson. Deepak Dobial, who also acted in ‘Omkara’, became Saif’s language coach and spend hours rehearsing with him.
The actor’s commitment paid, as Saif’s performance as Langda Tyagi was seen as one of the best in his career, giving him wide praise and awards.
On the work front, Aamir Khan was last seen in the drama film ‘Lal Singh Chafdha’ and Saif Ali Khan was last seen in the Telugu Action Flick ‘Devra’. Unfortunately both films failed to impress the audience.
