Veteran makeup artist Vikram Gikwad, who gave his transformative touch to some of the most prestigious characters of Indian cinema, died in Mumbai on Saturday at the age of 61 in Mumbai. National Award winning artist Vikram Gaikwad passed away on 61 yearsTwo -time National Award winner Gikwad was admitted to Hiranandani Hospital in Pavai, three days before his death due to issues related to blood pressure. His younger brother, Dr. Prasanna Paranjpe told PTI, “When he was admitted, he was quite well. We were not hoping that he would pass so soon. His BP was getting short, and we were not able to revive him.”With a career in decades, Gikwad work made a significant impression in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and South Indian cinema. He was known for his crafts in films like 83, Sanju, Shakuntala Devi, Tanhaji: The Anasung Warrior, 3 Idiots, Omkara, Balagandharva, Katyar Kaljat Ghumli, Ponyin Selvan and O Kadal Kanmani.
He received his first National Film Award for Best Makeup Artist for The Dirty Picture in 2012, followed by another for the Bengali film caste in 2014.The last rites of Vikram Gaikwad will be performed at Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar.
