London: 30 years after Britain’s Elite Magic Circle, a woman expelled a woman to present her as a male to get admission, to welcome her as a full member of the former male-cavalry society.
The London -based International Magic Organization excluded Sophie Lloyd after it surfaced as a man to win a membership in 1991.
But after her story surfaced last year, Laura London, the first female president of the society, began a discovery to track Lloyd and apologize.
She was eventually living abroad and later on Thursday will be presented with a membership certificate at a special ceremony at the London headquarters of the organization.
London told BBC Radio, “It is very exciting after tracking Sophie after all these months … I can’t tell you how happy we are as a society.”
Lloyd introduced herself as a woman as Raymond Lloyd for 18 months before doing her as a woman.
But the members, who had voted to accept women in September 1991, were so angry with their “deliberate deception” that they proceeded with their expulsion.
The deception was actually a two-individual task consisting of the late magician Jenny Winstonale, who admitted to help Lloyd to prove that the female magicians were good as men.
Lloyd said, “I did a 20-minute show in front of 200 people, three examiners, and spoke to the examiner for an hour and three,” Lloyd said, remembering how she managed to pull wool on everyone’s eyes.
After the Magic Circle, he changed its stance in allowing women, Winstonale, who died in 2004, called the society to convince the society.
“Two days later we received a letter that Raymond was expelled,” Lloyd said.
“We could not have round our head. We just thought, ‘Come, it’s fun, it’s entertaining’ but he did not think so and Jenny was completely taken away, unfortunately.”
After the expulsion, Lloyd finally continued to perform magic for 11 years in an anti -bullying type of shows before going abroad.
He said that the magic circle had changed with all recognition in 30 years, as it was thrown out, saying: “This is really for Jenny, Jenny would have loved it.”
London said that Thursday’s celebrations will also have a chance to identify Winstonley for his contribution to Magic at the expense of Magic Circle and his adventurous moves.
“I think she is a wonderful woman and I know she likes to live here and I just want anything that I could meet myself,” she said.
The Magic Circle was founded in 1905 by about 20 magicians at a restaurant in Chintown district of London.
Members should not vow to never give the secrets of magic.
Although women have now been admitted to Magic Circle for more than 30 years, they still make only five percent of the 1,700 membership of the society.
However, the body states that the increasing number is now coming through the 10–18-year age group.
