Fire season ahead of Greece Beefs Up Firefighting Force: PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis | world News

Athens: Greece has deployed the largest firefighting force in its history for a mensing fire season, which has already seen more than a thousand blaze brakes, the Prime Minister said on Thursday.
“For 2025, we have the largest number of men and women in fire service service,” Prime Minister kyriakos mitsotakis Said during the visit to the Ministry of Civil Defense.
“We should be prepared for the worst possible scenario,” Mitsotakis said, “as officials said that more than 1,300 fire broke in March, a time when Greek farmers traditionally burn the remaining crops.
The Prime Minister’s office said that more than 18,000 firefighting would be available this year, “No more number than ever”.
Another 300 firefighters from five fellow European Union member countries will be deployed permanently in Greece this year.
It will also have 3,700 fire engines and 80 monitoring drones.
Greece performed a malignant wildfire last year, including a huge explosion that forced thousands of people to flee their homes and reached the suburbs of Athens before bringing them under control.
The fire season in Greece officially begins on May 1, but the country already has unseasonal high temperatures in the already dry winter and March.
