Mauritius deep in corruption scam as a Macron visit |

Port Louis: A former minister and entangled in the financial scam with the director of the Central Bank, the island of Mauritius is in the political upheaval as French President Emmanuel Macron was visited this week.
The center of the mess is at the center of the Mess, former-financial minister Renganaden Padacia, who was recently seen as an important person in making Mauritius one of the stories of some economic success in Africa.
Recently, the right -handed person of former -headed minister Praveen Jugnath was arrested last week, Padayachi was arrested, who was accused of cheating Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC), a firm established to support businesses during a few $ 8 million Kovid -19 epidemic.
Former Central Bank chief, Hurtesh Cygiglam, who used to control MIC, is also under investigation.
The Padachi party, the terrorist socialist movement, accused the new government, which took power to use the judiciary in November, which to “neutralize” the opposition.
A close aide from Padyachi, who spoke to the AFP on condition of anonymity, claimed that it was part of the “Ek Vendetta” against the former Premier, Jugnath.
‘Mafiosi’
Since its independence from Britain in 1968, two dynasties have dominated Mauritius politics.
63 -year -old Jugnath made his father a success after his death in 2017.
He was defeated by 77 -year -old Navmin Ramgulam in November, who had already served twice as Prime Minister, and whose father was the first leader of the country.
Ramgulam has made the brand of his rival “Mafiosi” the former government of his opponent, alleging that he “acted in such a way as Mauritius was with him”.
He was prosecuted in 2015 to obstruct justice and money laundering – but says he was “political revenge”.
Mauritius is often seen as a model of stability and prosperity in Africa, but analysts have pointed to growing corruption and political occupation of institutions.
Last year, a wire-tapping scandal in which private interactions of senior politicians, police and commercial data were released online, was suggested to do wrong at the highest level.
In February, Jugnath was arrested as part of a money-laundering investigation, and is currently out on bail.
The documents carrying their names were found in the homes of two suspects, with luxury watches and cash suitcases.
“It’s not revenge, this is a cleanliness. We need to clean the Republic,” Ramgulam told Parliament.
‘Melting like butter’
The allegations can have an economic impact for Mauritius, where banking has been a major driver of its move in high-age position.
The country has been accused of long-standing tax evasion, but in 2022, high-risk countries have made efforts to remove it from the so-called “gray list” of the European Union, to deal with wealth and terrorism.
A foreign investor said, “Which is making us strong – transparency, stability and severity – melting like butter in the sun,” said a foreign investor, who did not want to give his name for fear of consequences.
Former minister of financial services and good governance in Jugnath’s government, Roshi Bhadain, who has now established his own party, said that the country cannot rely only its foreign image and tourism industry.
“We can no longer hide behind coconut trees,” he told AFP. “Either we clean, or we go down.”
Macron arrives in Mauritius on Thursday, where he will stop for 24 hours as part of a regional tour.
According to a French diplomat, “France is closely monitoring compliance with procedural rights in the case,” Padaychi has also laid the French nationality.
“But France will also not be considered as interference in the legal proceedings of a sovereign state.”
