Al Salvador President Naib Bukele offered the prisoner exchange for Venezuela amidst the exile row of Kilmar Garcia

El Salvador chairman Nayib Bukele Proposed a high-hand Prisoner swap with VenezuelaOffered to return 252 Venezuela people exiled from the United States and detained in L Salvador in exchange for the release of a similar number political prisoners Presidential Nicholas MaduroGovernment of government. Among those detained are Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an American exile, recently transferred to a lesser serious facility from the notorious Sikot Jail American senator Chris Van Hollen visited the country to advocate for his release.
On April 17, a senator van Holen, a senator from Abrigo Garcia, confirmed that 29 -year -old is no longer in Sikot. Instead, he is now in the Centro Industrial Detention Facility in Santa Ana, where he is allegedly kept alone in an administrative building with a bed and furniture. Speaking after returning to America, van Holen said, “A federal judge said that” there is no evidence that Abrego Garcia with MS -13 or any terrorist activity. ” Trump needs to be put in court.
However, President Donald Trump continued to claim that Abrego Garcia is a member of the violent gang MS -13, who accused Democrats and Media Outlets of trying to clean his image. Trump posted on the truth social, “Radical lunetic democrats … Kilmar Armando Ebrego Garcia is making Garcia a very sweet and innocent person, which is a total, dirty and dangerous lie.”
The dispute over Abrego Garcia comes as a comprehensive exile program, as legal obstacles have to be faced. A recent Supreme Court verdict has temporarily halted exile under the 1798 Alien Shatru Act. Senator van Hollen and other Democrats have warned that the situation may push the country towards a constitutional crisis, in which van Holen said, “We have a lawless president … who is ignoring the order of the Supreme Court of the United States.”
Amidst these stresses, the prisoner exchange of the bouquet is a dramatic geopolitical step. “I would like to propose you for a human agreement,” Bukele wrote to Maduro on X, offered to return all 252 Venezuela to all the 252 Venezuela detained in Al Salvador, some of which he said that he was arrested several times in the US for crimes such as murder and rape. “Unlike our prisoners … Your political prisoners have not committed any crime. The only reason has been imprisoned because they have opposed you and your electoral fraud.”
Bukele named several high-profile political prisoners, whom he wants to release, including Rafael Tudres (son-in-law of exiled opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez), journalist Rolland Carrino, advocate Rosio San Miguel, and others seeking refuge in the Argentine Embassy in Karakas. He also requested the release of about 50 detained foreigners, including American citizens.
Venezuela has strongly pushed back. Attorney General Taarek William Saab condemned the proposal of Baukele as a “condemnable”, seeking a complete list of Venezuela, detained with his health status and legal records. He also accused Al Salvador of violating human rights of his citizens, keeping them in maximum security imprisonment without any procedure.
While Bukele claims that the prisoners were arrested during the joint US -EL salvador operations, which target gangs such as Train D Argu and MS -13, both governments have given very little evidence to support the gang affiliation of prisoners. Maduro’s administration, in turn, called exile “kidnapping” and insisted that individuals are not criminals.
With the future of these prisoners and Venezuela’s political prisoners, the proposal pressurized both Karakas and Washington to respond. Does this deal proceed, can depend as much on legal decisions in the US as on Venezuela’s desire to interact.
