The Czech Republic shakes with Russian oil dependence. world News

Prague: The Czech Republic has become completely independent of Russian oil for the first time since the launch of an extended pipeline from Western Europe, Prime Minister Petr Fiala Said on Thursday.
A member of the European Union and NATO of 10.9 million people signed a deal in 2023 to expand the Transalpine Pipeline (TAL) from Italy, when Russia attacked Ukraine.
It used Russian oil until the supply was closed in the early March through the Druzhba pipeline, two months after the TAL expansion was completed.
Fiala told reporters on Thursday, “Yesterday the increased supply arrived yesterday.”
“For the first time in history, the Czech Republic is fully supplied through the Western route with non-Russian oil,” he said.
The 27-nation moved to the European Union to end its dependence on Russian fossil fuel after Moscow’s Ukraine invasion in February 2022.
The European Union banned most oil imports from Russia, but Druzhba was exempted as the Czech Republic had some other options.
The Czech Republic is already completely away from Russian gas, and it expects to stop using Russian uranium for its two nuclear plants this year.
The extended pool pipeline will supply eight million tonnes of oil per year, which “will safely cover the consumption of the Czech Republic”, Fiala said.
Taal brings oil from the Italian port of Tristte to southern Germany, where it connects the Czech Republic to the IKL pipeline.
The Druzhba pipeline was launched in the 1960s when East Czechoslovakia – which included today’s Czech Republic and Slovakia – was part of the Soviet block.
Tal is owned by an association of eight oil firms, including the Czech state -run company Mero and Global Giant Shell, ENI and Exxonmobil.
