A family in Telangana is mourning the death of 40 -year -old Ashtam Premasagar, a migrant worker and father of two in Nirmal district, who was badly stabbed by a Pakistani man in Dubai after a workplace dispute on 11 April.
Premsagar, working in a bakery chain, went to Dubai two and a half years ago to support his joint family.
At the time of his departure, his wife Pramila was pregnant with his second child. He had not yet met his young daughter and was planning a journey home to see her for the first time. On April 12, the family received a call from relatives in Dubai, in which he was informed that Premsagar was killed by a colleague after a dispute. Another person in Nizamabad district was also killed in the same attack, although his identity was not yet confirmed. “He was killed just because he was from India. We appeal for justice and also support the government,” said his brother Sandeep.
“He was repeatedly stabbed. The witnesses said that my brother pleaded with the attacker, saying that he had two daughters and old parents, but he did not stop.” His family is now trying to speed up the process of bringing his body back.
The family said that they had not received any official communication from the employer or local authorities in Dubai.
One of them said, “Even after five days of the murder, neither his employers nor any local authorities have contacted us or shared any official information. We are completely in darkness and trusting the updates of our relatives in Dubai.”
