Kolkata Knight Riders Chennai Super Kings on Friday faced an eight-wicket defeat at MA Chidambaram Stadium, hunting a minor 104-run target in only 10.1 overs (61 balls)-marking their second biggest win in IPL history in terms of balls.
Invited to bat first, CSK finished a horror show with bat on the turf of his home, crawling up to 103/9 in 20 overs. This was his lowest clan in Chepuk and the third lowest in his IPL journey. It stands as the lowest clan by any team in the 2025 version so far.
CSK has lost five matches in a line for the first time in the history of IPL. To make cases worse, KKR’s loss of Friday was also his third consecutive defeat in Chepack-for the first time he suffered three back-to-back home defeat in the league.
KKR bowlers gave a masterclass in control and precision. Veteran Sunil Narin rescued a web with 3/13 figures, while Pacer Harshit Rana and spinner Varun Chakarverthi took two wickets. CSK batsmen never received a rhythm, managing just nine borders – a slow, a statue of their struggles on the entertaining surface.
Shivam Dubey was the only silver lining for CSK, scoring 31 runs in 29 balls. Vijay Shankar stuck with 29, but no other batsman crossed the double-scar, highlighting the brittle middle order.
In response, KKR’s opener came out with intentions and aggression, putting the game on bed in a hurry time. He chased with 59 balls, underlining his dominance.
KKR’s only major win came in 2021 when he pursued 93 in just 10 overs against RCB, with 60 balls left.
