‘BJP wants to divide the country’: Tejashvi Yadav Slams Waqf Bill as ‘Unconstitutional’

New Delhi: RJD leader Tejashvi Yadav on Saturday strongly condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, called it “unconstitutional” and distracted the BJP to “divide the country” and suppress issues to use it. After a long and intensive debate, his comment came after the bill was passed by both houses of Parliament.
“RJD has opposed the Waqf Bill in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. All our MPs voted against it. We all believe that this is an unconstitutional bill, a violation of Article 26,” Yadav said at a press conference.
He accused the BJP of advancing the bill to promote polarization. “BJP people want to polarize, divide the country, they want to separate from the real issues of unemployment, inflation, migration, economic status, poverty,” he said.
Yadav also targeted the ideological roots of the ruling party. He said, “RSS and BJP are against the Constitution as they want to enforce the law of Nagpur (RSS headquarters). We are secular, ideology, do politics of principles. We have never compromised on ideology, we will never, and will continue to fight,” he said.
Without the name of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar directly, Yadav said, “Honorable CM is not right, I do not want to comment on it, but the aspects that call themselves secular have been exposed. It shows that they are selfish for power.”
Meanwhile, with the Bihar assembly elections coming close, Nitish Kumar-led JD (U) appears on a unstable ground as five party members stepped down from their positions after the passage of the Waqf Bill in Parliament, indicating dissatisfaction with the position of the party-a development that could increase the main political challenge of Tejashvi Yadava, Cumara.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday after a 12 -hour debate, with voting in favor of 288 MPs and voting against 232. After rejecting all opposition amendments, the Rajya Sabha on Friday approved it in favor of 128 votes and against 95.
Bill rescue, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju Said that it incorporates suggestions from stakeholders and aims to improve the transparency and governance of WAQF institutions.
The major provisions of the bill include:
- Reduce compulsory contribution from WAQF institutions to state WAQF boards from 7% to 5%
