New Delhi: India and the European Union hope that their free trade agreement will be finalized soon, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday.

Ursula von Der Leyen arrived in India in February this year and held a meeting with PM Modi. He committed his respective interaction teams to pursue negotiations for a balanced, ambitious and mutually beneficial FTA, which recognizes the centrality and importance of the India-European Union’s trade and economic relations.
The leaders asked the authorities to work as reliable partners to increase market access and overcome trade obstacles. He also tasked them to negotiate an agreement on investment protection and talk on an agreement on geographical signals.
Earlier, the European Union Ambassador to India Herway Delphin said the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement is gaining momentum due to the current global status, and while American mutual tariffs increase the discussions going on, they will not be a determination factors.
