New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha saw an intense debate on the Waqf Bill, in which the BJP’s “secular” colleagues, NCP and JDS leaders, both new NDA admissions supported the law.
NCP’s cheerful Patel was aggressive, especially when he took the Congress and its allies on their claim that they were opposed to the bill as it was not “secular”. On December 6, 1992, he reminded the pride of the pride of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya and also mentioned the allegations of Shiv Sena’s attachment to the communal riots in Mumbai in 1993.

JDS founder HD Dev Gowda supported the WAQF Bill, praising PM Modi for the protection of WAQF qualities. He reflected the previous failures in addressing minority concerns and questioned why Muslims left the Congress. Gowda also emphasized his faith in India’s secular ethos, which said that his religious visits are inspired by faith and not politics.
