Trump may widen travel restrictions; 36 nations flagged off security concerns – see full list

The Trump administration plans a major expansion of its travel ban, which may soon cover citizens of 36 additional countries. Earlier this month, the Republican President issued an order from 12 countries to enter the United States.According to the cable of an internal US State Department seen by Reuters and the first reported by Washington Post, these nations are being added to the list until they address specific security concerns within 60 days.Various issues have been listed in the cable signed by US State Secretary Marco Rubio, which has triggered these concerns. Among them, countries fail to issue reliable identity documents, weak or non -cooperative governments, poor passport security, and refusing to accept their citizens who have been ordered to leave the United States. Some countries were also flagged for the involvement of their citizens in terrorism, anti -social activities, or anti -American functions. However, the cable said that there is not every concern applied to all the listed countries.During Trump’s first term, he had already introduced a controversial travel ban on several Muslim-majority nations, a policy that faced several legal challenges before the US Supreme Court in 2018. This will add the banned ban earlier this month, already restricting travel from 12 countries such as Afghanistan, Myanmar, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. There are also partial restrictions on passengers from countries like Venezuela, Cuba, Laos and Sierra Leone.
