Campus Crackdown: The US Education Department threatens the recognition of Columbia University; Antisemitism cites concerns

The US administration, led by President Donald Trump, has intensified its struggle with the University of Columbia, stating that the organization fails to meet the recognition criteria due to insufficient protection of Jewish students.US Education Secretary Linda McMahon said on Wednesday, “After Hamas on October 7, 2023, the terrorist attack on Israel, the leadership of Columbia University intentionally worked indifferently to the harassment of Jewish students in his premises.”The office for civil rights in the US Education Department on Wednesday announced that it had informed the Central State Commission on Higher Education, according to the release of an education department, alleged title of Columbia University. “The Office of the Office of the US Education Department (OCR) today informed the Central State Commission on Higher Education (Commission) that its member institute, Columbia University, is violating the federal contradiction laws and hence fails to meet the standards for the recognition set by the Commission,” the release has said.The federal body claimed that the university no longer meets the Commission’s recognition requirements.It comes that the US government widely enhances its investigation of aristocratic educational institutions about allegations of antisemiamitism and progressive prejudice.According to Colombia’s website, it is necessary to reach federal funding including recognition by non-profit organizations, grants for university students and loans.
