Railway employee dead, passenger injured as a bridge collapse at Khanwal station in Pakistan

Eri News reported that an accident at Khanwal Junction railway station in Pakistan claimed the life of a railway employee of Pakistan and injured a female passenger after part of a pedestrian bridge on Friday.The incident occurred when a stone slab from the bridge suddenly fell on the people walking down. The rescue teams soon reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. While the passenger received medical treatment, the railway employee could not be saved.The repair work started on the damaged footbridge soon after the rescue operation ended. “According to preliminary investigation, a stone slab from the bridge fell down on them,” said Arya News. A spokesperson of Pakistan Railway said that the train operations at Khanwal station continued as usual.Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways announced that it would run five special trains across the country on the occasion of Eidul Adha 2025 to help manage the festive crowd. These special services will run from 2 to 4 June.According to the program released by the railway department, the first train will depart from Lahore from Karachi Cantt on June 2 at 1:00 pm. The second will run from Quetta to Peshawar Cantt on June 3 at 10:00 am. On the same day, the third train will leave Lahore at 5:00 pm for Karachi Cantt.The fourth train is going to depart from Karachi city to Rawalpindi on June 3 for Rawalpindi. The fifth and final special service will leave Karachi Cantt for Lahore at 8:00 pm on June 4.The railway spokesperson said that “coaches for first, second and fourth trains will be arranged from train workshops, while the third and fifth trains will use the current rake already prepared for Eid special services.”
