Ministry of AYUSH has signed an MoU to create a module for traditional Indian medicine

New Delhi: In a step for global recognition of India’s traditional medical systems, the Ministry of Ayush and World Health Organization (WHO) has signed a memorandum (MoU) to create a dedicated traditional medical module within the international classification of Health Intervention (ICHI).Signed by the Ministry of AYUSH on Saturday, the agreement aims to integrate traditional Indian practices- such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha and Unani-WHO’s International Health Intervention Classification System of WHO.During the 122nd episode of Maan Ki Baat on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about development, saying, “Friends, something has happened in the field of Ayurveda … yesterday, ie only, ie On 24 May, an MoU was signed in the presence of WHO Director General and my friend Tulsi Bhai, “he said.He said, “With this agreement, a dedicated traditional medical module under the international classification of health interventions has started. This initiative will help Ayush to reach maximum people around the world scientifically.”The ICHI system, which complements the International Classification of WHO (ICD-111), enables systematic documentation and coding of medical treatment and intervention. The new module will formally recognize treatments such as Panchkarama, Yoga Therapy, Greek Regiment and Siddha procedures in globally globally standardized terms.According to the Ministry of AYUSH, the benefits of this initiative include better billing and pricing mechanisms, better integration of AYUSH services in the health insurance structure, streamlined hospital administration, increased clinical documents and strong foundations for health research.In particular, the module will support global access to AYUSH interventions and position traditional Indian medicine as an evidence-based component of international health systems.While welcoming the partnership, the Director General Dr. Tedros Adnom Gabreyas posted on X, ” @India was pleased to sign an agreement for the contribution of $ 3 million to the work of @WHO, which works on traditional medicine and with the international classification of health interventions, @Moayush Rajesh Kotach. We welcome India’s continuous commitment to #HeALTHFORALL. ,The joint structure of ICD-11 and ICHI is expected to reduce India’s efforts to embed its traditional health systems within the global healthcare regime and practice, underlined by scientific verification and international standards.
