New Delhi: A powerful thunderstorm with heavy rains caused Delhi to Latra and caused widespread disintegration across the city, including delayed flights, waterfall roads, uprooted trees, and electric poles.The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) said that the storm brought the wind speed 82 kmph and 81.2 mm rains within just six hours, 11.30 am to 5.30 am.At Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Mountpore severely affected flight operations. According to airport sources, 49 flights were diverted between 11.30 am and 4 pm due to adverse weather conditions.IndiGo confirmed “temporary disruption in flight operations”, in a post on X at 3.59 pm and said that the airside congestion was reduced. By 5.54 pm, the airline said that the flight operations had resumed with a clear sky in the capital. However, according to flightradar24.com, many flights were delayed or canceled, with a average departure of more than 30 minutes.Meanwhile, several major roads including Moti Bagh, Minto Road, Delhi Cantonment and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg were submerged due to partially heavy waterlogging. Visuals of Delhi Cantt showed a bus and a vehicle immersed in a flooded underpass.Other affected areas included Eto, Dhula Kuan, Subroto Park, Nanakpura Underpass and Chanakyapuri, where serious waterfalls gave birth to a large -scale traffic congestion. The IMD first issued a red warning for Delhi and nearby areas, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds for the next few hours.
