Anita Anand named Canada Foreign Minister

After winning the federal elections of 22 April Indian -origin candidates in Canada, four made it in the new oath cabinet of PM Mark Carney on Tuesday. Two of them – Anita Anand and Maninder Sidhu – were appointed as ministers, while the other two, Ruby Sahota and Randeep Singh Sarai, will serve as the secretary of the state.Anand, an experienced politician and a legal scholar, 57 -year -old Anand was appointed as the Foreign Minister. A prominent liberal voice, he served in lead roles under both Justin Trudeau and Carney, which included the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry and National Defense.Oakville, native to Ontario, Anand is the daughter of Indian immigrant doctors. He first entered Parliament in 2019 and quickly increased through rank. During the epidemic, he played an important role as the Minister of Public Services and Purchase, managed the purchase of vaccine and PPE. He also led the Canadian military assistance efforts in Ukraine during his tenure as the Defense Minister. He started his political career as an MP from Okville riding in Ontario.

Sidhu, 41, who represented Brampton East, was promoted as the International Trade Minister after serving as the first state secretary. First elected in 2019, Sidhu held his seat in three consecutive elections. He has served in natural resources and transportation, infrastructure and permanent committees on communities, and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for International Development in 2021.45 -year -old Sahota was appointed as the Secretary of State to compete with the crime. A lawyer by training, she represents Brampton North and has won four consecutive terms as a liberal MP. He served as a minister of Democratic institutions from December 2024 to March 2025 and as the Chief Government in the office in the last months of Trudeau.The 50 -year -old Sarai represents the Surrey Center in the British Columbia, and was appointed as the Secretary of State for International Development. Born and grew up in Punjabi immigrant parents in Vancouver, he has served in Parliament since 2015. Sarai has obtained a law degree and maintained its seat in four consecutive elections.Ontario emerged as a major province in the Indo -Canadian representation, consisting of three of the four new cabinet appointments -AANAND, Sidhu and Sahota -Prant.
