New Delhi: Justice Bra Gawai Powered as the 52nd Chief Justice of India (Chief Justice) On Wednesday, became the first Buddhist to lead the nation Judicial system,President Draupadi Murmu conducted the swearing -in ceremony for Justice Gawai, who played the role after the retirement of CJI Sanjeev Khanna, After the oath, he touched his mother’s feet. Judges of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, East-CJI and SC & HC entered the ceremony.Justice Khanna retired as the 51st CJI as the top judge since November 11, 2024 on Tuesday. - Born on November 24, 1960 in Amravati, Justice Bra Gavai is set to take oath as the 52nd Chief Justice of India on 14 May. He started his legal career on 16 March 1985 and worked with a late bar. King S. Bhonsle, former Advocate General and Judge of the High Court, until 1987.
- From 1987 to 1990, he established an independent practice in the Bombay High Court. Subsequently, he mainly practiced Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court. His expertise focused on constitutional and administrative laws. He worked as a permanent lawyer for various institutions including Nagpur’s Municipal Corporation, Amravati Municipal Corporation and Amravati University.
- He regularly represented various autonomous organizations and corporations, including several municipal councils in the SICOM, DCVL, and the fate. He served as an assistant government petitioner and additional public prosecutor in the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court from August 1992 to July 1993.
- On January 17, 2000, he was appointed a government petitioner and public prosecutor for the Nagpur bench. His height for the Additional Judge of the High Court on November 14, 2003.
- He was confirmed as a permanent judge of the Bombay High Court on November 12, 2005. He presided over a variety of cases on the major seat in Mumbai and benches in Nagpur, Aurangabad and Panaji. Justice Gawai has presided over several cases in the major bench in Mumbai, as well as in benches in Nagpur, Aurangabad and Panaji. He was appointed as the Supreme Court Judge on 24 May 2019.
