Lawrence Wong retains power in Singapore’s general election, 87 out of 97 seats.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong‘S People’s Action Party (PAP) won a decisive victory in Singapore general election on Saturday, winning 87 of 97 parliamentary seats according to local media.
The party demanded a new mandate amidst economic uncertainty US trade tariffSince the independence of Singapore in 1965, PAP has constantly maintained governance.
On Saturday, about 2.6 million eligible Singapore voters cast ballots for 92 competition seats, in which PAP’s sea parade-Bradel Heights constituency is already safe through walkover on 23 April.
The election marked Wong’s inaugural leadership testing as Prime Minister of Singapore, a nation that is now facing economic challenges due to the tariff implemented by US President Donald Trump.
After the declaration of results in Marsiling-YEW TEE Group Repastery Construlation (GRC), Wong described the election as a “humble experience” and committed to serve voters.
The 52 -year -old Premier said, “We are grateful to your strong mandate and … will respect the belief you have given us.
The Election Department (ELD) said that the citizens voted at 1,240 polling stations in the island for 92 out of 97 parliamentary seats, determining the political direction of Singapore.
This election represented Singapore’s 19th and after independence since 1948. Wong assumed office last May, made Lee Hasian Loong successful, who served about twenty years.
Opposition parties launched vigorous campaigns, highlighting the cost of living in Singapore’s Labor-Charus economy, housing strength and exotic activists.
Senior PAP officials balanced the operations activities with trade talks during the nine-day period after the nomination of April 23, especially about the US-laughed tariffs on Singapore’s exports.

The PAP contested all 92 constituencies, while the Workers Party competed for 26 seats in eight constituencies. Pragati Singapore Party fielded 13 candidates in six constituencies along with other participating parties including SPP, SDP, PPP, Paar, RDU, NSP, SUP and SDA.
Wong insisted on responsible voting in view of unprecedented global economic challenges. The situation in Singapore is particularly important amidst the US-China trade tension, which is important given its historical relations with the two countries.
Singapore’s manufacturing sector entered the recession area in April 2025, with the US tariff export order defales and cancellations. The PMI declined to 49.6 points from 50.6 of March.
