New Delhi: Pakistan volleyball federation (PVF) on Sunday announced that India has canceled its participation in the upcoming Central Asian Volleyball tournament in Islamabad.
PVF representative Abdul Ahad confirmed that India had initially committed to send a delegation of 30 members along with 22 players to the championship on 28 May at Jinnah Complex.
The diplomatic relations between the two countries have deteriorated after the terrorist incident in Pahgam on 22 April, claiming the lives of 26 tourists.
“Indian volleyball authorities have informed the regional body that his government has canceled the NOC issued for the tournament after the incident in Pahgam,” Ahad said, quoting PTI.
“It is disappointing to know that India has been withdrawn from the Championship and will be replaced by Afghanistan or Sri Lanka.”
The competition is set to include teams from Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
