Islamists warned Yumns, threatened treatment like Hasina

Dhaka: radical Islamist group Hefzat-e-Islam Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has warned that if the interim government proceeds with the implementation of the “anti -Islamic” proposals made by the Reforms Commission of Women, he will be treated first like Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Hefzat leaders also condemned the proposals in a direct struggle with the Quran and Sunnah. Meanwhile, Khefat Majlis also called for the commission’s elimination. “It is against the Quran and Sunnah and threatens religious identity of Muslims,” said General Secretary Ahmed Abdul Qawadar.
Hafazat warning occurred during nationwide protests, which started with the recent report of the Commission, which claims Hefzat Islamic lawSpeaking at a protest site in Narayanganj on Friday, Joint General Secretary of Hefazat Mamunul Haq said, “We welcomed five of the six reform commissions, but the proposals of the reform commission of women affairs are shocking. They blame religious and social norms for gender discrimination, which is a clear untouchability of Islamic law.” Referring to Younus, Haq said, “We have shown him respect, but if he insists on advancing this agenda, we will be forced to treat him apart from Sheikh Hasina.”
